FAQ

What do I need to know about Epilogue?

Epilogue is our professional permanent hair color developed by working stylists who wanted cleaner chemistry, better control, and results they could trust long after the shampoo bowl.

Made in Italy, Epilogue delivers vibrant, long-lasting color with 100% grey coverage while being both PPD-free and resorcinol-free - something rarely seen in permanent color. A vegan bonding complex and conditioning ingredients help maintain strength, shine, and hair integrity without compromising performance.

Epilogue isn’t about following trends. It’s about giving stylists a smarter, more intentional permanent color system that performs beautifully in the real world.

How many shades are available in Epilogue?

Epilogue has 84 intermixable shades to give stylists and salon owners a full range permanent color line. Along with natural tones, we have bright reds, coppers, browns, golds, violets, mahogany, ash, plus boosters and high lift colors. Download our free digital color chart, or utilize the Epilogue Color Book as a more detailed formulation guide.

How do you mix and apply Epilogue?

In a non-metallic bowl, mix 1 part Epilogue permanent color with 1 part Danger Jones Deluxe Cream Developer. Apply to dry, unwashed hair using a tint brush and non-metallic bowl. Process for 35-45 minutes. Rinse thoroughly and shampoo with a color-safe shampoo.

Does Epilogue permanent color give 100% grey coverage?

Yes. If the hair is less than 25% grey, use our Natural series -0 as ¼ - ½ of your color formulation.
Pro Tip: If the hair is 50% grey or more, use our Double Natural series -00 as ½ of your color formulation.

What developer should I use with Epilogue?

Our Deluxe Cream Developers 5 - 40 volume (1.5 - 12%) were designed to also be mixed with Epilogue. No need to purchase any new developers to store in your cabinet. Follow our developer chart to help guide you to the correct developer formulation.

How do I use Epilogue High Lift Colors?

Our High Lift colors are designed for natural hair levels 5 and higher and can be used in foil or applied directly to the hair/scalp. In a non-metallic bowl, mix 1 part High Lift color to 2 parts Deluxe Cream Developer using 20 - 40 volume (6 - 12%). Process for 45 – 55 minutes. Rinse and shampoo thoroughly.

What else do I need to know about Epilogue?

In addition to having a vegan bonding complex we’ve also included key ingredients like chia seed, aloe vera, and jojoba oil for added moisture, shine and color longevity. Our creamy consistency makes it easy for stylists to apply and give full coverage and saturation during application.

Can Epilogue permanent colors be mixed with the Danger Jones Gloss Toner colors?

No. Epilogue permanent colors should not be mixed with our Gloss Toners. They’re formulated with different pH levels and consistencies, and combining them will disrupt the chemistry and also compromise color accuracy, performance, and longevity.

Can Epilogue permanent color be used as a demi-permanent color also?

Yes, you can turn Epilogue into a demi-permanent color by mixing with our 5 Volume Deluxe Cream Developer in a 1:2 mixing ratio (Epilogue: 5 volume developer). Keep in mind, this will still have an alkaline pH, meaning it will bump/shift natural hair color. If you want an acidic, no-lift color result, use our liquid demi-permanent Gloss Toners instead. The color families also pair perfectly with Epilogue. Pro tip: Use our Gloss Toners instead.

Can Epilogue permanent color and the Gloss Toners liquid demi-permanent color, be used in the same service?

Yes. Epilogue is designed for permanent root coverage, while our Gloss Toners are liquid demi-permanent formulas ideal for refreshing mids and ends or adding shine.

We intentionally designed the levels and bases of Epilogue and our Gloss Toners to be the same, making them seamless to use together in one appointment.

When using both at the same time (Epilogue on roots, Gloss Toners on mids/ends), apply them separately and avoid any overlap. Epilogue and Gloss Toners operate at different pH levels, and allowing them to touch during processing can compromise the overall final color result.

Is Epilogue safe for sensitive hair or scalps?

Yes. We always recommend doing a patch test 48 hours prior to application to ensure no allergic reaction.

Does Epilogue contain PPD and/or Resorcinol?

No. Epilogue does not contain PPD (p-Phenylenediamine) or Resorcinol.

Does Epilogue contain ammonia?

Yes. Epilogue contains ammonia, but at a lower level than traditional permanent color. As experienced stylists, we’ve found that many ammonia-free permanent colors can continue oxidizing even after shampooing, which often leads to warm, brassy, or flat color fade over time. Ammonia, on the other hand, is predictable - once processing is complete, the action stops, giving us cleaner tone, better control, and more reliable results.

Thanks to modern chemistry, we’re able to reduce the amount of ammonia in Epilogue by pairing it with a plant-based, biodegradable mild alkalizer, delivering performance without unnecessary harshness. We intentionally chose this approach because it simply delivers better, longer-lasting color integrity.
